A Case for Calamity FB Release Party

Ladies, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking old Gus, owner of The Lonesome Steer honky tonk couldn’t have brought together all the lonely, broken hearts that he did. But I’m here to tell you I have. Not only do I have the pictures of these couples in my office to prove it, but there’s been a whole series of romances written about the men and women who found love at The Lonesome Steer. And just like every one of my couples, each of these romances is a keeper.

The authors of these books have put together a Valentine Honky Tonk Blog Hop, an easy way for you to get a sneak peak at every story. And there are prizes to put a bounce in your Texan Two-Step. To be Eligible, visit each blog and leave a comment.  The more hop stops you visit and comment on, the more chances YOU have to win a $50 gift card to The Wild Rose Press. In addition, the publisher is providing a second grand prize of a $25 gift card to The Wild Rose Press and a Wild Rose Press mug (Sorry US residents only for the mug prize).

Some of the ladies will be giving away their own personal prizes. So whatcha waitin’ for? Happy hoppin’!

Welcome hoppers! Best of luck in the drawing for the grand prizes. I’ll also be giving away an e-copy from my backlist to one lucky commenter here. Winner’s choice. So be sure to leave a comment and visit the links to the other stops below. Each of us are posting a scene from our title taking place in the Lonesome Steer Bar. Here’s mine from A SONG FOR SOPHIE. Enjoy.

“Come on.” Beau propelled her across the scarred wooden dance floor toward the back of the room.

She wanted to argue, especially when she realized every eye in the place followed their progress with undisguised interest. His fingers, still gripping the back of her suit, kept her from escaping. He nodded, greeting several of the patrons by name while weaving through the tables. Either he didn’t notice or he chose to ignore the confused speculation on the faces of the Lonesome Steer’s clientele as they eyed her.

But she noticed and understood. Like everyone else, she’d seen the photographs of the women her new employer spent time with. She wasn’t even in the same league with the stunning beauties he’d escorted around the globe.

A blush heated her cheeks at the diners’ raised brows. Then again, she could practically hear Beau’s playboy status clanking down the ladder of public opinion. The thought made her smile.

Six weeks, she reminded herself. Fifteen thousand dollars.

With the reminder straightening her resolve, she resisted the urge to elbow Beau when he released the back of her suit to slip an arm around her shoulders just as they stepped up to his mother’s table.

Country legend, Savanna Beaumont-Walker-Trudeau-Barnaby-Hilton-Tucker, was as light as her son was dark—and just as striking. The ageless country superstar sat like a queen between two long stemmed, spectacular looking blondes. They followed Beau’s approach with feminine alertness in matching predatory gazes.

Sophie glanced up at him. The pronounced arch of his brows said, I told you so, and she smirked, silently admitting his description of his mother’s matchmaking tendencies might have some merit.

“Beau, baby,” Savanna crooned, her southern roots evident in every syllable. She lifted her cheek for his kiss.

“Savanna, you’re looking as lovely as ever.”

“Aren’t you sweet.” Her eyes flickered over Sophie, and the arm draped over her shoulder. She indicated the women on each side of her. “You don’t mind I invited Janine and Jazelle to join us today, do you? Janine is my new designer. She and her sister have created a spectacular new onstage wardrobe for me. They do lovely work.”

A vision of Natalie Carlson stroking her ringed fingers along his inseam, while he did his best to deflect her hand from between his legs, flashed through Sophie’s head. She choked on a laugh, turning it into a cough at the last second. Beau’s fingers tightened on her shoulder before he turned his trademark smile on the blondes.

“Not at all. Ladies, it’s a pleasure.”

The ladies cooed and batted their big blue eyes with practiced expertise. Sophie was impressed with the synchronization of the exercise.

Stepford sisters.

She bit her lip to stifle another snort of laughter. Beau seemed oblivious. He slid his hand to her back, directing her into a chair and took the last for himself.

“Sophie, I’d like you to meet my mother, Savanna Beaumont. Ladies, this is Sophie.”

That’s it? No explanation for her intrusion into their luncheon date. No qualifying her position as an employee. She considered kicking him under the table. Running interference indeed. Hah! As if any of these stunning women would consider her presence at the table any kind of competition for Beau’s attention.

She did her best to ignore the arm he slung over the back of her chair and smiled at his mother. “Miss Beaumont. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m a big fan.”

Savanna’s bemused gaze flicked to Beau, before her eyes cleared. She returned Sophie’s smile. “It’s always lovely to meet a fan. How do you know my Beau?”

His fingers tugged a gentle warning on her braid, and he spoke before she could answer.

“She’s from Cholla Springs, Savanna. A history teacher at the high school.”

Sophie sent him a sidelong glance. “Actually, I was a teacher in Cholla Springs.” She jumped when his booted foot connected with her ankle. Oh, no he didn’t! She didn’t look his way, simply kicked him back, hard, and was pleased at his muffled grunt. “But,” she continued, “because of recent budget cuts, I’ve recently taken a new position.”

She turned to him then, thinning her lips and narrowing her eyes in a scowl designed to let him know he was going to owe her—and owe her big.
